Today was such a fun day of filming. Growing up in the south
I have always experience southern hospitality, but Mary Mac’s Tea Room takes it
to a completely different level. They are so kind and so generous there, they
couldn’t have been anymore helpful. We started the day off by securing all of
our footage on an external hard drive. This was absolutely necessary because it
is actually quite stressful thinking about losing any of this excellent footage
we have been taking. We headed down to
Mary Mac’s, and started filming right away. Ponce De Leon Avenue is such a neat
old street with tons of interesting restaurants and stores, we had to get some
footage of the environment around Mary Mac’s. Then we sat down to have our
meal. We were greeted with open arms and a nice back rub from head back rubber,
“Mrs. Joe”. The sweetest woman whose primary job at Mary Mac’s is to rub the
backs of the customers. You know you are in a nice southern restaurant when
they have an employee dedicated to back rubs. We filmed two amazing interviews
of Mrs. Joe, and a waitress who has been working at Mary Mac’s for over twenty
years! They filled us in on the rich history, and southern style traditions
that they still hold to this day. One of the most interesting things of Mary
Mac’s is the ordering process. You write down on a sheet exactly what you want
with a pencil provided on the table. It is a tradition of the restaurant, and
it is one that will definitely never change. It was just such a delight to be
surrounded by so many kind people, and they really helped in making our video
the best it could possibly be.
